Workshops

In addition to the main conference, we will also run 3 pre-conference workshops:

- Nanotechnology and Food Packaging

- Nanomaterial SHE

- Characterisation and Metrology

Workshop 1 - Nanotechnology and Food Packaging

Nanotechnology-based applications within food contact materials provide a route high-value, multifunctional products with big benefits to food safety, quality, shelf-life and recyclability. The current global value of such products has been estimated at over £2.5bn but in reality their use in our everyday lives is some way off. The Nanotechnology and Food Packaging workshop, as part of NanoMaterials2010, will investigate and discuss how the challenges of realising nano-enabled applications for food contact materials can be overcome.

Delegates will hear from leading industry figures discussing up-to-the-minute industry drivers and status of current technologies, highlighted by a series of product case studies. This will be juxtaposed by the latest information on exposure studies alongside regulatory viewpoints.

The workshop should be attended by representatives from across the food industry, covering manufacturing, packaging and distribution along with technology and novel materials providers and regulators.

Benefits of attending:
• Improve your network by meeting leading industry figures within the food and related industries
• Evaluate the current landscape for nanotechnologies for food contact surfaces in terms of industry drivers, technologies available and regulation
• Highlight the biggest challenges facing the wider exploitation of nanotechnology to solve major challenges in food products
• Identify new opportunities for new collaborative partnerships
• Make decisions regarding your activity in this growing sector

Workshop 3 - Characterisation and Metrology

13.00-18.30
We are all aware of the potential of nanomaterials and nanotechnology, however, product development is often held back by a very basic consideration - how can nanomaterials produced be characterised and hence quality contolled. As fundamental aspect in successful commercialisation of nanomaterial products, in this workshop we will provide the latest examples of the techniques available for characterisation and indicate how they can be of benefit to your business.
